A DYSTOPIA BETWEEN WANTING TO GROW AND BEING RAISED
How are you supposed to grow if you don't know whereto?
A ‘rearing house’ is supposed to make Jonas, Joanna, Ivette and Moritz better people, ready for the world, the outside, a bright future. To achieve this, a strict hierarchy and rules must be followed. How one behaves, how one talks, how one looks is subject to strictly instruct-
ed conduct. Any violation of the rules, any sentimentality is severely punished – only in the dark and in their dreams there is room for a secret life. But then a new person entersthis isolated world, ignores all hierarchies and principles and sheds light on the breaking points of their world.
Johannes Hoffmann creates a gripping dystopia that tells the story of a group of young people on the threshold of adulthood, their confrontation with inner and outer expectations, and their struggle for support, orientation
and meaning, completely on their own.
